Non-fungible Tokens

September 21, 2021

I'm excited about Ethereum and many things related to it and it's positive to see a use-case on the Ethereum infrastructure gaining traction. On the other hand, it's not the use case that at least I was expecting to see gain traction first.

Ownership of art typically requires some human judgment. You need a domain expert to determine if a piece of art is an original. With NFTs, it's clear for everyone to see who created it. The digital Mona Lisa of today would be tokenized by leonardodavinci.eth and there would never be any question of who owns the real one.

However, the Mona Lisa of today is not created by Leonardo da Vinci, but by Princess_MegaHertz. You can buy it here:

At the time of writing, no one has bid on it yet.
